What is firmware, and why should I care?
Flash's firmware is the software on the bike that allows communication between the touchscreen, motor, LED lights, handlebar controls and your smartphone app. It's important to keep your bike's firmware up-to-date for a number of reasons, including proper communication with your app, as well as enabling new and improved features on your bike.
This article shows you how to check the current firmware version that is installed on your bike. For specific instructions on how to update firmware, please read this article.
How to check current firmware version:
We will always send out an email to announce a new firmware update release. However, if you are not subscribed to our email newsletter, you'll need to check for yourself. But don't worry; it's super easy.
- Make sure you have the latest version of the Flash app installed on your mobile device. If you do not have automatic downloads enabled on your device, you can launch the App Store or Google Play to check for an update.
- Turn your Flash on, make sure your device is within 10 feet of the bike and has Bluetooth enabled, and launch the app to connect with your bike.
- Go to Settings, scroll down and tap on 'Firmware Update.' (see screenshot)
- The app may need a second or two to check with your bike before it displays the appropriate message. If your firmware is currently up-to-date, you will see the screenshot below.
If instead you see a message telling you there is a new firmware update ready to install, please read this article for step-by-step instructions for upgrading your firmware.
